Lido activated direct ETH staking from four layer-2 networks on October 15, 2026.

Go-Live Details

Lido stated on X that direct ETH staking from Ethereum layer-2 networks went live in its own staking interface at stake.lido.fi on Oct. 15, 2026. The four networks covered are Arbitrum, Base, Linea and Optimism. Users on these networks can now stake ETH through the Lido interface without handling manual bridge steps themselves.

How Deposits Are Handled

Lido says ETH deposited on one of the four networks is swapped for wstETH from a dedicated pool on that same network. The deposited ETH is then bridged to Ethereum mainnet and staked through Lido. wstETH is sent back to refill the pool on the layer-2 network. This setup keeps the user position on the original network while the staking occurs on mainnet.

Cross-Chain Technology

Lido says Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) powers the cross-chain steps. The protocol handles the movement of assets between the layer-2 networks and Ethereum mainnet. Earlier announcements had already outlined the role of CCIP in these rails.

Prior Announcement

Lido announced on X on Oct. 29, 2024 that CCIP would power its Direct Staking rails, starting with Arbitrum, Base and Optimism. Linea was added by the time the feature reached live status on Oct. 15, 2026. The earlier post laid out the technical foundation that later supported the four-network rollout.

Additional Adoption Context

Chainlink noted that outside apps including XSwap, OpenOcean and Interport adopted the rails after the 2024 announcement. These integrations showed early use of the cross-chain staking path before the Lido interface itself went live with the feature.

User Experience

Users deposit ETH on one of the supported layer-2 networks through the Lido staking interface. The swap to wstETH happens from the local pool, and the background bridging and staking steps occur automatically. The result is wstETH held on the layer-2 network without separate user actions for bridging or mainnet staking.

Summary Of The Update

The Oct. 15, 2026 go-live expanded access to Lido staking for users who prefer to remain on layer-2 networks. The four networks now route deposits through CCIP to mainnet staking while delivering wstETH locally. Lido presented the change as a simplification of the staking process across these chains.
